Hey gang,
Wondering how you are all finding the observation period? In the Socials Department in particular I have observed many different teaching styles and personalities. One teacher in particular pays little attention to the textbook, and rather tries to engage the class in role-play, debates, discussions, and watching film. Another teacher is very structured, spending 30mins each day reading from the text and then doing a work sheet taken directly from the text. Others implement a bit from both styles, which i think to be most rewarding for the students. I am curious to know what its like with other teachers in other schools? Any alarming things to share? Or perhaps some beneficial classroom techniques?

Hello. In the SS 11 and History 12 classes I have been in on, the teacher has built a web page where she posts all of the course content, notes, links, due dates, etc. It is amazing and well used. Also, she has taken the text and converted it ALL into power point. This is awesome. It took her forever but it is awesome for the students. She was then able to put in her own materials and mix content with multi-media. What I really like is that this teacher respects her students and lets them know that she will talk to them the way they talk to her. It works. They adore her and work hard in her classes. She will ask if they are tired of taking notes, and if they are she moves on to a different project, group time, individual or partners, film clip, or other stuff.
I am loving it.
