Four Square Assignment

Hi there. I was in my school last week and I watched the Grade 11 SS class get into groups of 4 and start a Four Square Assignment. It was the day after our guest lecturer discusses his amazing foam board assignment so I was digging the use of artistic creativity in projects. There were many of these projects up around the class and the students were stoked to get to do these.

They were working on the Hollocaust and they built their projects as follows:
Working in a group construct an assignment made up of 4 sqaures.

#1 2 poems- write 2 poems on your topic. Alphabet poem, "I am" poem, or an acrostic poem (must be made up of sentences not just phrases)

#2 Thesis and "What If" statements- Create two thesis statements. Include three arguments you would develop if you were writing an essay.

#3 Image, graph or cartoon- if you feel artistic than make a powerful image, if not then feel free to collect images and make a collage.

#4 Summaries- Write 2 summaries about your subject. Pick two of the themes or events that were pivotal to the historic significance of your topic and summarize these events and their significance in relation to your topic.

I liked this assignment, as you can tell. It works and its something the students were proud of. The best ones go up on the wall and are kept. Cool.
