Hello Everyone,
I realized that many of us are going to be doing our practicums in the city but have not grown up here so we may not be aware of all the experiential learning opportunities in the area. I have listed a few below with their links but if you know of any others please add them to the list so that all of our students get the benefit from getting out of the classroom!
Royal British Columbia Museum: http://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/MainSite/default.aspx
Victoria Native Friendship Centre: http://www.vnfc.ca/
Ocean Discovery Centre: http://www.oceandiscovery.ca/
BC Parliament Buildings: http://www.leg.bc.ca/
Royal Wax Museum: http://www.waxmuseum.bc.ca/
Belfry Theatre: http://www.belfry.bc.ca/
Royal and McPherson Theatres: http://www.rmts.bc.ca/
Craigdarroch Castle: http://www.craigdarrochcastle.com/
Abkhazi garden: http://blog.conservancy.bc.ca/
As I said this is a very short list and I think some of the most powerful field trips would be through connections with local First Nations groups, War Veterans Societies and . So get out there and see what this community has to offer!

I remember going to grave yards and having to find people who were important to Victoria's history. This was fun and it helped you learn more about the person when you got to stare at the grave. Creepy but memorable. And Victoria has some good cemeteries.
As well, going on a tour of China Town or the original Downtown area is awesome. Tell students about each building on Fort Street, talk about the Fort, the mud, the way things were, how the shipped things in, go to where people used to be hung and explain how many people were buried there, where they ended up being buried...the weird stories always seem to stick and give the student more information. Victoria is fascinating and there are a lot of awesome resources out there. So much to show students about how Victoria has changed.
Good blog post! I love field trips.
